Once again, Sony is changing the gaming world with the new portable handheld device, the PlayStation Vita.
A successor to the popular PSP, the PS Vita (which was codenamed NGP for next generation portable during development) is named for the Latin word for life, Vita. Why? Because it supposedly “blends the lines between life and networking” with the new additions on the device.
Besides having two analog sticks, a 5 inch OLED multi-touch touchscreen, WiFi and 3G, and Bluetooth, the PS Vita sports two cameras, one facing front and one facing the back. The graphics are so good it competes with consoles, and all there isn’t a bad viewing angle for the screen.
It has full backwards compatibility with all PSP games via the PlayStation Store. Even better? The PS Vita will allow compatibility with PS3.
Yep, that’s right. If a friend is at home playing a racing game on their PS3, you can log on to your PS Vita from anywhere and compete. Moreover, you can pause a game on the Vita and then pick it back up on your PS3. This adds new dimensions to the portability consoles, since it merges both platforms.
A new feature is “Near”, which allows you to see any other gamers playing their Vita nearby.
At E3 2011, Vita was officially named and revealed by Sony. It will have a price of $249 for the 3G version and $299 for the WiFi. It runs through AT&T, and has a expected release date of the Holiday Season 2011.
Amazon has already listed the PS Vita for pre-order, so check it out.
