About PlayStation Vita

The PSP was a great addition to the world of portable handheld gaming. It was no surprise that Sony PlayStation developed a successor to the PSP which will release in the holiday season of 2011.

While under development, it was codenamed the Next Generation Portable (NGP). The name wasn’t revealed until the 2011 E3, where we saw the first commercial trailer of the PS Vita, as well as heard pricing.

The pricing is a great deal. At only $249 for the WiFi version and $299 for 3G/WiFi. It will be carried by AT&T in the US.

Some of the great specs about the PSV stems from the graphics and unique integrations. The 5-inch screen shows HD graphics that look just as clean, if not more so, than an HD PS3, due to the size and clarity. There isn’t a supposed bad spot to view from, all angles showing the entire screen.

What I meant by integrations stems from two things: the cameras and the PSN. First off, the cameras: with one in the back, one in the front, some games will take parts of your surroundings (like skylines and lighting) to effect the screen. Some can even add your face into the mix.

Now, about compatibility. Supposedly games from PSP can be downloaded onto the Vita, because they are using new media for game storage. But what’s better? One of the speculations about the Vita is that a person on a PS3 can play compatible games versus a player on the Vita. The Vita gamer can then pause, pick up their PS3 controller, and start up the same game they just left.

There are other new features, as well, such as “Near”. Near shows players on their Vita near you, so it social networks with real life and internet gaming.

Make sure to pre-order your device before it sells out. These are sure to be in high demand.
